Predating the Sentra by roughly one year, the Nissan Maxima is the oldest nameplate on the brand’s lineup. It was first introduced in 1980 for the ’81 model year and has since continued building its reputation as one of the best sedans not only on the Nissan lineup but on the market as a whole. Back in the early ‘80s, the Maxima got its start in the compact sedan segment, before making the jump to midsize in 1989 as the start of its third generation. The sixth generation, which kicked off for the 2004 model year, then saw it take another step up to the full-size segment. Today, the 2021 Nissan Maxima is a few years into its eighth generation as it celebrates its 40th anniversary here in Virginia Beach VA.
In honor of that anniversary, a Maxima 40th Anniversary Edition has joined the lineup. At an added cost, you can upgrade the Maxima Platinum with this package to add a series of unique design cues and extra features. This includes a unique two-tone exterior color that combines Ruby Slate Gray Pearl with a black roof, 19” gloss black aluminum-alloy wheels that are exclusive to the package, several other black exterior accents include the exhaust finishers and trim badges, red semi-aniline, leather-appointed seating with special embossing, red contrast stitching throughout the cabin, Satin Dark Chrome interior faceted finishers, white faces on the speedometer and tachometer and, finally, heated seats in the vehicle’s rear.
Outside of this special package, the 2021 Nissan Maxima is available in three different trim levels – SV, SR and Platinum. Regardless of trim level, your Maxima will be powered by a 3.5L V6 engine tethered to a performance-oriented Xtronic transmission system. The powertrain is capable of generating up to 300 horsepower, which promises to deliver a fun time on the road.
